Cambodian Company Begins Export of Processed Fish Products to Australia

PHNOM PENH, April 26, 2024 — Home Taste Food, a fish processing enterprise based in Siem Reap province, has successfully exported its first batch of processed fish products to Australia, marking the first official international shipment of such goods by a Cambodian company.

Mrs. Sim Sereyroth, founder of Home Taste Food, announced that approximately 4.7 tonnes of processed fish products were sent to Australia. “This first formal export marks a significant milestone for us and signifies that our local products meet the international standards required for export markets,” she stated.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) has expressed support for the venture, recognizing the potential for Cambodian processed fish products in the global market. Ms. Im Rachna, Under Secretary of State and spokeswoman for the MAFF, affirmed the ministry's commitment to facilitating further export opportunities.

“Home Taste Food is the pioneer among Cambodian enterprises to officially export processed fish products internationally,” Ms. Rachna noted.

She also highlighted that Home Taste Food has received extensive training through the CAPFISH-Capture program, a collaborative initiative between the MAFF’s Fisheries Administration and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Businesses capable of exporting processed fish products are awarded the Cambodia Quality Seal (CQS) Certification, which is administered by the Department of Fisheries Post-harvest Technologies and Quality Control under the Fisheries Administration. The CQS certification is designed to acknowledge Cambodian businesses that adhere to high standards of quality and safety in fish and fishery products.

This development not only opens up new markets for Cambodian exporters but also sets a precedent for quality and international compliance in the country’s burgeoning fish processing industry.
